New look for channel five

today channel 5 launched their new look including a new logo and new idents.

Popcorn bags

Looking at circus popcorn packaging, 3 colours max, red/ blue/ yellow/ white and black. Stripes, Clowns and Circus fonts. Stock- Thin white/ cream or brown paper.

Changing the channel

I have changed the channel that i will show the programme on to channel 5 ...this is because channel 5 show more entertainment programmes.

I love this ident it has the feel of a entertainment show, i like the lights around the channel 5 logo, how it makes it look like a show title.


Incorporating the logo into the theme of the programme.


This simple little animation used within the ident works so well and i can imagine would be something we could actually design!

DvD Packaging Designs

 The cut out windows work really well connecting the outer packaging with the cd, i like the repeated patterns and small colour palette used, it makes a sophisticated piece of design.

(Card with Plastic Inner)

 I like how the designer  has used the outer and inner faces as whole faces to work on, this allows the design to continue around onto the next face, it has a nice flow and limited colour palette which works well with the rough textures.

Thinking outside the box, or in. The cd package being an object! I like how the cd's are made to look like cogs, the inner mechanisms found inside the package.

I'm not as keen on the overall look of the design although i like how they have thought creatively when designing the case,  how it opens, the material.

 Paper folding! Interesting shapes created, fold out with info and illustrated cd artwork. I like the variety between the inside and outside of the packaging.

 Looking at different materials, using foam to hold cd in place and protect, i will look at using different materials. Also i like how the cd can be seen from the outside and continues on the illustration connecting the two.

Music Packaging, making it look like the object, i especially like the 'decks' packaging and how the cd is made to look like a vinyl and the extra design around it to increase the appearence.

channel idents

The majority of bbc4 idents use photography/ film and appear real. This is the only one i have found that uses a more fun creative approach, it is for a childrens programme so suits the style.

The old logo would have worked better with my original ident designs but i need to use the new logo so will have to storyboard new ideas

Dark Circus Intro

I like the depth created between the layers i would like to create this in the main part of the title sequence where we see a number of acts within the circus... they have used a similar idea to me where the acrobat hangs from the type at the end. The music is really powerful and creates supsense!

Monty Python Flying Circus

My title sequence and idents will be smiliar in style to the monty python animation by terry gilliam, using bold colours slightly desaturated, brown backgrounds, black strokes around illustrations.

Cineworld Ad

I like how the camera zooms into and through the key frames, the use of illustration with hand drawn type, layers of images and colours.

i want to use similar style motion and illustation as the animation above, drawing out simple illustrations of objects, the set and background then using after effects to perform simple actions.

Vintage style Circus posters

All vintage circus posters use bold yet slightly desaturated colour, dark stroke illustrations a painted effect... possibly paint some of my illustrations? or use existing illustrations. Large, dark in colour type used, bold.

WOW... this video is brilliant, the materials used and ideas for the type are so creative. i love how it changes from 3d made type to computer generated type, it flows so smoothly from one phrase to another using appropriate media and use of colour.

this is a very complex and long piece of kinetic type, there are a lot of aspects of it i like....
